The City of Petaluma was established in 1850 on the banks of the Petaluma River. With a population of 58,000, Petaluma was known as the “Egg Basket of the World” for its vibrant egg industry in the early part of the 20th century. The town is now considered a foodie haven. Not as well known as nearby Sonoma or Healdsburg, the historic downtown features breweries, antique shops and many notable restaurants.
